3 houses. C17 or early C18 with later alterations and additions. Roughcast
with slate roofs. L-plan. 2 storeys, south elevation of 5 bays, the 1st 2 bays
are later. Windows are sashed with glazing bars, those to 1st 2 bays with
horns, the 1st floor windows with gablets. Ground floor windows to 3rd and 5th
bays have dripstones. Entrance between 1st and 2nd bays has half-glazed door
and timber gabled porch, that to 4th bay has panelled pilasters, dosserets with
flower motifs and open pediment; blocked fanlight with glazing bars and
9-fielded panel door, 2 panels glazed. Gable-end stacks and cross-axial stack.
Hoopers Cottage to rear was originally workshop, adjoins short wing to Low
Greengate House, 4 bays with small lean-to outshut and entrance with pentice.
Varied fenestration with casements and 3-light mullioned window. Gable-end
stack and cross-axial stack. Interior has top part of C17 or early C18 court
cupboard. Property of the National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
