2 houses, now one house. Late C16 or early C17, linked in C19.
Timber frame roughcast, C18 red brick casing to ground floor at S
end bay, C19 grey brick link with stair and front porch. Steep
roofs now slated. 2 separate houses built less than 2m apart for
separate households to work the same farm. Houses in line facing
E with a 3-cell central-chimney house at S, and a T-plan house to
N with a crosswing at its S end projecting to front and rear.
C19 gabled E porch fronts the infill linking the houses with roof
of S house extended to N. 2 storeys, with storage-attic in
crosswing of N part with external gable door at rear. Irregular
E front with 3 windows to each side of porch. Flush box sash
windows with 6/6 panes to S bay with 2 on each floor on gable
end. Single-light leaded casement in line with central chimney
of S house, 4-light leaded casement window over a triple sash
window to right and left of porch and 2-and 3-light similar
windows to N part with French windows on ground floor. Gabled
grey brick porch with slate roof, heavy cusped bargeboards and
carved finial. Gauged pointed arch to doorway and small side
windows. Canted bay window with hipped slate roof on N gable.
Rear lateral chimney to N house with 8-light mullioned window now
a screen in front of later glazing. Interior has exposed beams,
double-curved brace in ground floor of S part, fireplace c1700 on
ground floor in lateral stack of N part, and 2-light ovolo-
moulded C17 window frame in N house. (RCHM Typescript)
