Stables, now a cottage and stables, C17 E range, early C19 N
range. Red brick with gabled red tiled roofs. W front of E
range painted white and S gable end plastered and lined as
ashlar. The E half of a courtyard of buildings open to the S,
probably the former stables for Hunsdon House before the C19
stable block there was built close to the house. 2 storeys E
range has a central doorway, now blocked, flanked by wide,
projecting, full height, pilasters. The part to the right is
Farm Cottage: the part to the left has a central door flanked by
tall cross windows and a central loading door over with a
small gable. Farm Cottage has a low 4-panel door with plain
surround but arabesque frieze and elaborate early C18 carved
brackets supporting a panelled flat hood. 2 small windows on
each floor symmetrical about the door. Segmental brick arches
and 15 small panes to each casement light. It has a 2-room plan
with central stair, rear lateral chimney on left and external
gable chimney on right. The single storey C19 N range consists
of a 3-centred arched passage next to the corner and a stable
with 3 windows and a stable door between the 1st and 2nd windows
from the W, where it abuts the former coach-house now Old Laundry
House. An historic brick stable yard group of special
architectural and historic interest. Part of the group forming
the setting of Copthall Farmhouse.
