10/85 Walls, railings, gate-
piers, gates and steps
to front of No 72
GV II
Garden walls with dwarf walls, railings, gatepiers, gates and steps. Piers are
c1730-40, of rusticated ashlar, with moulded bases and capitals, and pine-cone
finials. There are 2 sets, one pair flanking driveway to left, the other pair
flanking gates to steps up to front door of house. To either side and between
sets of piers are early-mid C19 brick dwarf walls with stone copings and cast
iron railings. Railings are of same date and have finials with fleur-de-lys to
alternate rails. Another length of dwarf wall with railings curves back from
pier to right of driveway. Central pair of gates are also early-mid C19,
similar to railings, and are ramped down to central lotus finial. Lower rail-
ings of gate have frieze of roundels. To right is a high stone garden wall.
