The Staure Farmhouse

II*

Wrongly identified on SO 61 SE as Stuare Farm. Farmhouse. C17 - reputed
1612. Pebble dash on rubble, steep slate roofs. Compact multi-gabled house,
original main entrance from south-east now replaced by approach from north-
west. Three storeys plus part basement, east and west fronts double-gabled,
two-windowed, mainly three-light wood mullioned casements, some with leading;
heavy plank door in moulded surround, east, and panelled door with early
fittings up steps, right end west front. Principal stack central. Main
ground floor room fully panelled in C17 oak; many heavy chamfered beams; C17
open well stair; roof principals in raised cruck form. Porch, north-east
includes small stone two-light C14 window with trefoil heads, said to be from
Newnham Church.
