House. C15 open hall house, floors and chimney inserted in early
Cl7, N crosswing re-roofed on axis of house in later Cl7. Timber
frame roughcast with old red tile roof. A one and a half
storeys, 3-cell, central-chimney, lobby entry plan house facing
W, with chimney a third from S end and C19 external gable chimney
at N end. Originally open to roof throughout with hall, service
room in same range to S, and parlour to N of 2 bays framed
transverely. 4-light diamond mullioned window in rear wall of
parlour. Central chimney built at lower end of hall with winding
stair by stack entered from hall. 4 windows on W front with 2
gabled dormers at middle and S end. Flush casement windows
except flush box sash window to left of door. T-plan red brick
chimney. Interior has exposed close-studded walls, chamfered
axial beam in hall propped off fireplace lintol, exposed axial
joists in narrow service end with lower floor level, thin exposed
joists in parlour, edge-halved scarf joint with bridled butts in
rear wallplate at S end, single purlin in each slope of hall
roof, but 2 purlins to N end re-roofed later.
