GV II
Orangery, now house, and adjoining garden wall. Mid-C18 with late C20 altera-
tions. Brick with stone dressings; hipped slate roof behind parapet. Single
storey. Rectangular four-bay plan; openings have round heads and rusticated
lintels; two multi-paned C20 windows; C20 multi-paned doors in second and
fourth bay. Single-storey C20 addition projects to left with C20 round-headed
windows in the front elevation and in the angle with the main part. Garden wall
adjoins right end and runs south-west for about 80 yards. It is about 12 feet
high with pilaster buttresses at 10 yard intervals and terminates in a square
pier with pyramidal capping. About 10 yards from The Orangery is a doorway
with cambered head. The Orangery and adjoining garden wall survive from the
original C18 garden layout and form a strong visual link with the main south-
east elevation of Brookfield House (qv). Included for group value.
