1/35 No. 29 and Myrtle Cottage
-
18.11.76
- II
Two houses, now a single dwelling. Early C19, No. 29 is a remodelling of an
earlier building; Myrtle Cottage is possibly all a C19 build, with late C19 or C20
alterations. Plastered cob on stone footings; gabled-end roof, pantiled to no.
29, tiled to Myrtle Cottage, the latter with crested ridge tiles. No. 29 is a
single-cell building (cf no. 28, q.v.); Myrtle Cottage (which stands forwards of
no. 29) is a double-depth plan house, the principal rooms to either side of the
entrance which is set right of centre; the stairs are probably to the rear of the
entrance hall. Right-hand end stack, and rear lateral stack, heat right and left-
hand rooms respectively. Axial stack to no. 29. 2 storeys to both houses, the
roof ridge line of no. 29 being much lower than that of Myrtle Cottage.
Front: Tall C19, 2 light, casement window, to both 1st and ground floor of no. 29.
Myrtle Cottage an asymmetrical 4-window range under 2 large gable ends, the gable
walls (along with the end gable walls) weatherboarded. 1st floor with 2-light
casement windows, the glazing bars forming pointed arches with margin panes. 3
similar windows to ground floor. Porch with moulded entablature and clustered
columns. Another window, similar to those described, to left-hand end.
