18/1 Keeping Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C16/early C17, C18 and C19. Brick with tilehung gables and old
plain tile roof. 1 1/2 storey, 3 bay and smoke bay, end bay beside smoke bay
rebuilt as crosswing and now entrance front, one bay outshot on rear side.
Front of 2 bays has central 6-panel door in doorcase. Each side 3-light
casement with 3-light gabled dormer over. Side of building has crosswing
to RH end (which projects to rear). It is gabled and tilehung with 3-light
casements on both floors. Beside is narrow stack bay with tiny light. To
LH is gabled bay with tilehung gable and 3-light casements on each floor.
On both sides of this bay are 2 tieplates one above the other. LH bay has
pier beside single light and large French windows near end. Roof 1/2-hipped
to LH and slightly higher ridge to crosswing. Over smoke bay huge stack of
cruciform base and 4 hexagonal shafts, with moulded heads, arranged in
cross-shape.
