Lye Farmhouse
(formerly listed under
Road to Tetbury)

II

Farmhouse. C18 with later C18 Gothick facade added. Thin-bedded stone, painted,
stone slate roof. A plain rectangular block to which the Gothick wing added on east
end to form a T-plan. Gothick front tripartite, two storey crenellated, with
3-quatrefoil openings under string at first floor, and two pointed Y-tracey blocked
lights below and central blocked doorway with Y-tracery over, under decorative
tri-lobed head. Centre flanked by buttresses and with diagonal stepped buttresses
with crocketted pinnacles at corners. Return face, right has 2-light opening, part
glazed, with Y-tracery. Original, other body of farmhouse two storeys and attic,
3-windowed, 2 or 3-light casements and 3 hipped dormers, former door off-centre,
left. End bay, right is granary with external steps.

An interesting Gothick survival, probably stemming from Stouts Hill (q.v.).
