Large detached dwelling. C17. Coursed limestone rubble, stone slate roof. L-plan,
3-gabled main north-west front, large service wing returns, back left; main front
3-storeys, 3-gabled, of which 2 are 'false gables', 4-windowed; 2-light stone
ovolo-mould mullion casements under continuous drip mould to ground and first floors,
upright elliptical blind oculi to gables, two storey porch left centre with 2-light
mullioned casement under stopped drip, over C17 plank door.
Cable to road with one 3-light and the 2-light modern casements and glazed oculus to
gable. Return wing two storeys and attics, small casements, modern entrance opposite
kitchen stack. On left gable, north-east side, one 4-light mullioned window to
kitchen. Interior: in main gabled block, ovolo mould stopped beams, fine fire
surround with cartouche containing date 1670 and fireback 'IAP 1688', and second fire
surround with heavy bolection mould, also dated 1679. Entrance from porch to lobby
opposite stack, and beyond this evidence for former newel stair, now disappeared.
Built as one of the Uley clothier's house, later divided into 3 dwellings,
subsequently modernised into one property.
