SO 8203-8303 KING'S STANLEY SELSLEY WEST

14/52 Gateway to south of Stanley Park

GV II

Gateway, gates and flanking walls. Mid C19. Possibly by Joseph
Franklin for S.S. Marling. Limestone ashlar; dresssed, squared
and coursed dry limestone walling; timber gates with iron
fittings. Large arch with 4-centred moulded opening; shield-
enriched spandrels and inscribed S.S.M. at centre. Buttressed
sides; hipped weathered coping to top with ballflower enrichment
below. Lower pedestrian gateway to left with shouldered arch and
small rectangular opening over containing iron-framed gas lamp.
Swept top to main plank gates with spiked iron fittings; matching
pedestrian gate. Curving dry stone flanking walls with coped top
terminated by ashlar piers. Main archway has C20 iron lettering:
'Stanley Park'. Forms part of group with No 23 (Stanley Park
Lodge) etc (q.v.).
