Pair of estate cottages for Hatherop Castle Estate. Datestone
"AGP 1856", by A.G.Ponsonby. Coursed and dressed rubble stone
with quoins, slate roof with coped end verges and finials, 2 large
stone ridge stacks with diagonally set paired ashlar flues with
moulded cornices. Long front range with rear lean-to and dormer
extensions, single storey and attic. Three front gables, coped
and with finials, each with 3-light stone mullion with square
hoodmould and wooden 6-pane casement to each light. Ground floor
has 3/5/3-light stone mullions with square hoodmould, central light
of central window on each floor is blind and masks internal party
wall. End porches on each side return of single storey with
gabled end and finial. This pair of cottages is the only one of
several built in the village by Ponsonby which is unaltered on its
main facade.
