Large semi-detached corner house. Probably early/mid C17 core,
refronted in early C18. Coursed rubble stone on rendered plinth
with alternating flush quoins, stone slate roof (partly artificial
to rear wings) with large external stone stack to left with offsets
and stone end stack with brick flue to right. Originally single
front range with nearly central rear projecting gabled stair tower
(still with wood newel stair), with smaller parallel range added to
rear on right probably in late C17 or early C18, and long kitchen
and stable cross range to left with higher floor level. Main front
range of 2 storeys and attic with 2 windows, 12-pane and 16-pane in
moulded stone surrounds, formerly 2-light stone mullions. Two 12-
pane sashes below with relieving arches over, both now cutting
through upper windows at sill level. Central stone doorcase with
moulded jambs and lintel and flat wooden hood with dentil cornice
and elaborately carved scroll brackets and decorative inner panel
below hood in form of diaper work. Small gabled dormer with twin
6-pane wood casements. Rear stair tower has blocked single light
stone framed window at top and blocked 2-light stone mullion with
square hoodmould below and unblocked 2-light at lowest level. Left
hand return has 2-light stone mullion surviving to rear of external
stack and 2 lengthened into 12-pane sashes in front of stack, with
small single stone framed tight in attic. Rear wing has wooden
notice with painted byelaw about making disturbance in the road,
from former Farringdon District Council, probably of C19 (byelaw
now mostly illegible). Stone ramp from front forming level path to
garden gate behind rear range, former pony access to long stable
range with asbestos tile roof and scattered openings with timber
lintels.
Interior has chamfered and stopped beams, C18 panelled room to left
of door, remains of 2-light stone mullion with square hoodmould on
rear of wall of room on right, now in kitchen to rear.
