Ex-Servicemen's Club
GV II
Oast house, now clubhouse. C17 or earlier stowage, altered early C19, and
restored early C20. Timber framed and part exposed with plaster and red brick
infill, with tile hanging to 1st floor, with red brick rounded. Plain tiled
roof. Two storey stowage with hipped roof and gablets, with 2 wooden casements
and single light to right on ground floor. Three casements on ground floor,
with boarded door to right in gabled porch. Lean-to extension to left on arcade
of squared posts, with 2 storey hipped extension at end left. Rounded to end
right, with conical roof and wooden cowl, the winder inscribed: Ex. S.M. Club.
The scantling of the frame, and the proportions of the roof of the stowage
suggest an origin earlier than the oast, possibly originally domestic.
