TL 51 SE LEADEN RODING DUNMOW ROAD

Lobby-entrance house, c.1600 with C20 extension. Timber framed, plastered,
roof tiled. 4 bays aligned roughly north-south, with axial chimney stack in
chimney and entrance bay, third from north. Contemporary single-storey wing
to rear of north bay. Single storey flat roofed extension in rear angle, C20.
2 storeys. 2 window range of C20 metal casements with louvred shutters. Porch
gabled and tiled, with 6-panel door to front, blocked internally to form a
small study. Grouped diagonal chimney shafts. Some framing exposed internally.
Curved tension braces trenched to inside of studs. Jowled storey posts.
Stop-chamfered beams. Original clasped purlin roof, re-using some smoke-
blackened medieval rafters. North side of chimney stack cut back to form
smaller C19 chimney. RCHM 5.
