House. Early C19 with earlier origins and later additions and alterations.
Pinkish-red brick faced with pinkish-yellow mathematical tiles to front in
Flemish bond, with pantile roof. 2 storeys, 5 bays, with single-storey
screen walls to sides and with ranges to rear. Central-hallway plan.
3 steps to central entrance a 6-fielded panel door below fanlight with
radial glazing bars with pedimented Doric doorcase. 12-pane sashes
throughout under channelled wedge lintels. Wooden eaves. Hipped roof.
Side and rear stacks. To either side are single-storey walls with rounded
niches under flat arches of gauged brick. Ashlar copings. To rear:
staircase window has 12-fixed-lights and radial glazing to head. 12- and
18-pane sashes to sides. Interior: Neoclassical fireplace to sitting room.
Rear sitting room has probably C18 fireplace. Cantilevered staircase with
stick baluster and ramped handrail. Shutters to some rooms. Late C20 hand-
painted reproduction of the Chinese wallpaper at Nostell Priory by Lady St
Oswald to right bedroom. Panels of sangerie by Lady St Oswald to sitting
