Farmhouse. Early C17 with C18 wing; remodelled mid-C18 with mid-C19 and
mid-C20 alterations. Part timber-framed with rendered infill on sandstone
rubble plinth, part brick; plain tiled roofs. L-plan; main part of C19
brick and of 3:1 bays aligned north-west/south-east; rear north-east return
adjoins surviving framed single bay with large external sandstone rubble
chimney and truncated stack at north-east gable end. Two storeys, attic
and cellar with dentilled eaves cornice. Framing: six panels from sill
to wall-plate; collar and tie-beam truss with three struts; to collar and
V-strut in apex at north-east gable end. South-west front elevation:
three-bay part has irregularly spaced bays; all openings have cambered
heads and moulded architraves; windows are all 12-pane sashes; entrance
between first and second bays has a 6-panelled door and transom light
with three glazing- bars. Single-bay part has a C20 ground floor 2-light
casement. Large ridge stack at junction. Interior not inspected. Main
entrance in lean-to addition at rear. Timber-framed part has an attic
light in its gable end, a cross-casement on both floors in the angle with
the main part and a cellar door, ground floor 3-light casement and first
floor cross-casement in its north-west elevation. Part of the Winnington
Estate.
