Farmhouse. Probably C16 and C17 with early C19 extension and later alterations.
Sandstone rubble plinth and timber-frame with brick and plaster infill. Welsh
slate roof with sandstone and brick stacks. Irregular rectangular plan aligned
east/west. Cellar, two storeys and attic. North elevation has 1:2:2 windows.
To extreme left is raking-top dormer above a 2-light mid-C19 casement set in
framing three square panels high with angle struts to corners. Projecting
forward to the right is early C19 range with a 3-light wrought iron casement
to each storey and to their right a semi-circular first floor window with Y-
shaped glazing bars. Beneath this is a four-panelled door with fanlight, also
with Y-shaped glazing bars. To the right of the C19 range is the main block.
Its left part projects forward of a raised roof and is jettied. The first
floor has a 3-light C18 wrought iron casement above a contemporary canted bay
window with three front and two angled lights. Angle posts above and below
jetty. The right part of the main range has three storeys each with a 3-light
casement. Beneath the lowest one is a ledged door to the cellar. Interior
has several rooms with ceilings divided into regular panels by chamfered beams.
Two-flight staircase with half-landing and C18 turned balusters. C17 panels to
room from which staircase rises also have small figured C17 friezes in oak
above. Trusses to raised roof of main range have queen-posts. Elsewhere are
collars on queen struts. (RCHM, Vol III, p 2).
