6/19 The Mill


GV II


Water mill, now house and store. Probably C18 to early C19 with late C20
alterations. Timber-frame, brick squared sandstone, sandstone rubble and
dressings. Brick with Welsh slate roof and brick stack. Rectangular three-
bay plan aligned west-south-west/east-north-east with north/south arm at west
end. Three storeys. South elevation has two windows, 2-light casements with
cambered heads. Ground floor forms sandstone plinth with two 2-light openings
to right of stable door to the left of which is late C20 glazing bar casement
and early C20 external brick stack. Attached at west end is brick-cased timber-
framed arm with exposed framing to north gable. Interior has remains of mill
apparatus including drive shaft from missing water wheel. Trusses have king-
posts with parallel pairs of raking struts from ties to principals. Brick
cased timber-framed wing attached to west is not of special interest.
