Farmhouse. Probably C17 and C18 with later alterations. Sandstone
rubble, timber-frame with plaster and brick infill. Partly rendered
brick extension. Sandstone and Welsh slate roofs with sandstone and
brick stacks. L-plan with arms projecting to north-west and north-east,
respectively having four and three structural bays. Two storeys and attic.
North elevation has 3:1 windows, one small sash to left and to gable front
with a 2- and a 3-light early C19 casement between. Gable top has central
attic opening above collar. Ground floor has 2- and 3-light casements.
Ledged late C18 or early C19 door to left of 3-light casement in main range.
Interior has flagged stone floors. Trusses of north-west arm have plain
collars. Two of those of the other range have raking struts; the eastern-
most has queen posts with a collar between. Under the collar is a 2-light
attic window of former outside wall. Ground floor rooms have panelled ceilings
formed from chamfered beams, many of which have large lamb's tongue run-out
stops. RCHM incorrectly states that the cross-wing of Old Hall is at the
east end. (RCHM, Vol III, p 212).
