House and adjoining outbuilding. Late C16 with late C18, mid-C19 and mid-
C20 alterations and additions. Part timber-framed with painted brick and
rendered infill on limestone rubble base, part coursed limestone rubble and
rendered brick with plain tiled roofs. T-plan; main part of three framed bays
aligned north-west/south-east and has two large external rubble chimneys with tiled
offsets and brick stacks to rear of central and south-east bay. A two-bay C18
wing adjoins the south-east end which has an external chimney on its south-east
side and a brick stack with sunk panels. Part single storey and attic with
dormers, part two storeys and attic with rendered band at first floor level.
Framing: main part has three panels from sill to wall-plate, some close-set
studding at its north-west end and also a collar and tie-beam truss with two
collars, four struts to lower collar and one central strut to upper collar.
South-west front elevation: the main part has four single-light C20 casements,
a 2-light C20 casement and a pair of C20 glazed doors on the ground floor.
Above are three original gabled dormers with coved jettied gables and tie-beam
trusses with swept V-struts; each dormer has a 2-light casement. The gable-
end of the south-east wing has two ground and first floor large 2-light case-
ments and an attic light. This wing has been re-roofed and has some timber
planks applied to its upper floors to resemble timber-framing. Main entrance
to rear of main part and has a C20 door. There is a four-bay brick out-building
which intersects to the rear of the south-east wing. Interior is recorded
as having retained a fine staircase in the C18 wing. (VCH, Vol 3, pt 2, p 519).
