II
Former pair of semi-detached cottages, now single house. Probably
late C18 or C19. Spindly timber framing, white-painted brick
nogging, no jowl to main posts: thatched roof. U plan, gabled
wings with recessed centre, slightly set-back lean-to each end,
covered by sweep of main roof. C20 extensions to rear.
Originally 1 room deep, 1½ storeys. Front, all windows late C20.
On right 2-light casement in extension, 3-light in gable. Boarded
front door in right half of centre, gabled thatched porch on shaped
brackets: to left 3-light casement. Circular, single-pane window
in right return of left gable, 3-light casement in gable, boarded
door to left lean-to. First floor 3-light casements in gables,
St. Andrews cross framing below, 2 collars and curved V struts
above. Two gabled dormers to recess, each with 2-light casement.
Lateral chimneys to outer face of main gabled wings, bases
enveloped by lean-tos. Exposed base rendered, 3 diamond-set
square flues above, oversailing heads. First rear extension added
after 1924 (25" O.S. map), second late C20.
Interior much modified. An unusual composition, designed for
architectural effect.
