Chapel of Ease, now a church. Circa 1880, probably by Carpenter &
Ingelow, then working on the Parish Church. Built from E but not
completed. Fine chancel of uncoursed flint with stone dressings and
steep pitched red tile roof. 2nd bay from E toothed for S side aisle or
transept and stone arch blocked with red brick. Lower gabled vestry on N
of flint and stone. W arm dark weatherboarded with brick S porch and
slate roofs topped by a ridge vent. Chancel has fine 5-light pointed E
window with reticulated stone tracery and hoodmould. Corner buttresses
with stone quoins and offsets. 2-light traceried stone S window with
quatrefoil in head to 1st bay. Ornamental ridge tiles and stone cross on
E parapet. Sash windows with 3/3 panes to nave. Said to have stonework
from medieval Parish Church made redundant at restoration. Full
dedication may be to St. Martha and St. Mary. (Richards(1974)35).
