5/2 Beeches Road School
II
School. 1892 by Alfred Long. Brick with some stone dressings and tile roof.
Single storey. Front block symmetrical, with projecting gables to each side
and with glazing bars to windows. Under each gable are triple pointed windows.
The recessed centre has paired windows between and to each side of taller
pointed windows with gables. Gables coped, with some decoration at apex.
Set back to the left is a tower which has a doorway at the base with "Infants"
inscribed on the lintel, under a glazed Tudor-arched head. Above a weathered
offset is a plaque with cusped head under an ogee hood, inscribed: "West
Bromwich School Board. Beeches Road School. Erected 1892. Alfred Long
Architect. J Mallin Builder". Below the overhanging roof is a clock face,
protected by a gablet with bargeboards. The tower roof is capped by an open
timber cupola and pyramidal roof with gables and weathervane.
