Headstone with a pair of winged cherubs heads in the top corners. These are to encourage the departed soul to fly to heaven. Intimations of mortality shown on the frieze are: a pair of skulls with most of their teeth, crossed femurs, ivy, acanthus leaves, trumpets heralding Judgement Day, stormclouds with the promise of sunshine (vice a rainbow). A scallop shell is there to blazon a fourth son. To Jonathan Heard the son of John Heard late of Beaumont Leys by Frances his wife and Grandson of John Heard Senior. He d. 27th Mar 1741 aet 24. Epitaph: Oh man ccontemplate on thy mortal fate/ And calm submit to the Decrees of fate/ let Vertue be thy guide while here on Earth/ The Young and Old ne’er fear to meet with Death.
