House. Probably late C17 with earlier remains, altered C19 and C20.
Pebbledashed brick and stone with remains of cruck frame. Artificial
stone roof. North wall has central 2-storey gabled range which has a
recessed 6-light chamfered mullioned window. The other windows have plain
reveals. To its left is a shallow window and on the 1st floor a C20
casement. To the left and right are wings of one storey with attic. The
left-hand one has a door to the right of a window. The right-hand one has
a door to the left of its window. Chimneys to right of left-hand wing and
towards rear of ridge of middle range. Attached to the east gable wall of
the left-hand wing is a large water trough cut from a single block of
sandstone. Interior: left-hand wing contains cruck truss partly visible
in wall to left of doorway. The left-hand room has chamfered and stopped
common joists and an ovolo-moulded spine beam. The joists are supported
on a clamp pegged to the cruck tie-beam. At the junction between the
middle range and the right-hand wing there is said to be a second cruck
truss, now covered. The north room of the middle range has ovolo-moulded
main joists. The south room has 2 similar joists which are lodged on a
roll-moulded firehood bressumer. A C17 plank door opens into an extension
on the west side.
