pass channel, Appley Locks

Canal lock. Probably early C19 when the original single lock at Appley
was duplicated by a pair. Chamber lined with sandstone ashlar. Double
gates. Footbridge across western end. Spillway on northern side lined
with sandstone. Part of this lock is in Wrightington C.P. (q.v.)
