Station and station master's house. 1855 for Lancashire and Yorkshire
Railway Wigan to Southport line. Snecked sandstone rubble with slate
roof. Tudor style. 2 storeys. Windows are chamfered and are mullioned and
transomed with hoods. The south side, facing the platform, has a central
projecting gabled wing which has a canted bay window on the ground floor
and a 2-light window above. Each return wall of the wing has a chamfered
Tudor-arched doorway. To each side the building is of a single storey at
the front. To the right is a square bay window, blind at the sides and of
2 lights at the front. To the left is a 2-light window with a door to its
left. Gables coped. Chimneys to left of wing and at right. At the rear a
2-storey porch adjoins the rear of the central wing and has a single-
storey wing parallel with it to the east.
