Cast iron wall, formerly part of bridge over River Irwell dated
1883-4; only part of right half remaining. Gothic style: 5 sections,
each with 3 Tudor-arched panels and roll-moulded weathered battlements.
Section at left end (but presumably originally the centre of a longer
wall) has moulded coat of Arms of Bacup bearing the motto HONOR ET INDUSTRIA
and lettered at the head and sides JOHN HARGREAVES MAYOR 1883-4; similar
lettering above J. WILSON BOROUGH ENGINEER,and below JAMES BARKER & SONS.
