3/18 Croft House

- II
Farmhouse, now house. Probably later C17; altered. Coursed sandstone
rubble, rendered and painted white, stone slate roof with rebuilt gable
chimneys. Two unequal bays. Gable to road. Two storeys; gabled
single-storey porch offset to 1st bay, left of this a low 3-light window,
right of it a taller 3-light window, and at 1st floor three 3-light
windows: all these windows with slightly recessed chamfered mullions.
Right gable wall (to road) has inserted windows on both floors; rear has at
lst floor an ex situ C16 mullioned window of 6 deeply-recessed round-headed
lights with hollow spandrels and a hoodmould (from Chapel House, Nelson).
Interior: mostly altered (perhaps raised in C19), but 2nd bay contains a
segmental-headed stone fireplace with moulded surround, and corbelled jambs
supporting a massive lintel with moulded cornice (this probably restored).
