14/13 Former stables on north side

GV II to the East of Browsholme
Farmhouse)
Former stables, now converted into flats, early-to-mid C18th and moved to
their present position in 1804. Squared coursed sandstone with stone slate
roof. 2 storeys, 5 bays, with chamfered quoins. Windows are sashed with
glazing bars and architraves. The central bay has a wide entrance flanked
by Tuscan pilasters, with a frieze and cornice. The gables have copings
with kneelers, the right-hand gable having a chimney cap. At the rear is
a blocked wide entrance with segmental head. The stables are not shown in
the view of Browsholme c.1720 in Samuel Buck's Yorkshire Sketchbook,
reproduced in facsimile Wakefield, 1979. 'They are shown, at the front of
the house, in a drawing dated c.1750 reproduced in the Description of
Browsholme Hall, London, 1815.
