1/33 The Hermitage

Root house, late C18, red brick walls lined with randomly coursed
blocks of tufa with five tree trunk pillars supporting a slate
roof with lead dressings. Octagonal plan. Single storey.
Entrance is formed of 2 tree pillars which form a pointed
archway. Interior had lining of smaller branches set in
patterned lattice decoration in the Chinese Taste with
interstices filled with tree bark. Ceiling is similarly
decorated with spokes of rustic poles radiating from the centre
where a boss is formed of a large tree bole. Inside are a rustic
table, 4 monoxylous chairs and one rustic chair formed from a
tree bole and branches.
