Cottage, latterly farmbuilding, now disused. Circa 1600 with probably C18
alterations. Timber framed with red brick nogging, right-hand gable end re-
built in dressed red sandstone; corrugated-iron roof. Framing: large square
panels (2 from sole plate to wall plate) with short straight corner braces.
single-cell end lobby-entry plan. One storey and gable-lit attic. Integral
brick end stack to right with weathering. 2 central open panels, possibly
former door and window or later alterations made when the cottage became an
agricultural building. Boarded door to right. Collar and tie-beam truss
in left-hand gable end with queen struts. One-storey lean-to addition to right-
hand gable end with brick corner stack and door to front. Interior: chamfered
spine beam with ogee stops; plain joists. Large open fireplace with dressed
sandstone reveals and chamfered and stopped wooden lintel. Chamfered corner
post. Probably C19 stud partitions on each floor. Staircase in left-hand
front corner. Collar and tie-beam roof truss with queen struts. Purlins
with straight wind braces. The right-hand end wall was-probably rebuilt in
sandstone in the C18.
