Cottage. Late C16 with later alterations. Timber framed with red brick
and plaster infill on coursed sandstone plinth, straw thatch roof. One
storey and gable-lit attic; 4 framed bays; framing: square panels,
3 from cill to wall-plate with long and short straight tension braces
and V-struts from collar to right gable end; irregular fenestration,
2 late C20 casements in panels of framing, one to either side of
boarded door under late C19 gabled brick porch with round-headed outer
arch, small late C19 casement above to right and blocked doorway to
far left; integral brick end stack to left and prominent external
stepped brick stack to back wall on right. Interior: timber frame
intact including to cross walls and to partition wall running length
of house. Tudor-arched doorway in partition wall; original plank
doors and short single-flight oak staircase to right of entrance;
roof of Queen-strut construction with cambered tie beams and collars.
The cottage is an exceptionally well-preserved example of its type.
