Peverey House Cottage

II

Gate lodge to Yeaton Peverey. Dated 1892, by Aston Webb. Snecked red
sandstone ashlar and timber framed (closely-spaced uprights with middle
rail) first floor with plastered infill. Slate roof. T-plan. In a
Domestic Revival style. 2 storeys. South-west front: chamfered offset
to first floor, jettied gable ends with shallow ogee-moulded cambered tie-
beams and curved brackets, and moulded barge boards with pierced pendants;
parapeted gable end to rear with coping and globe finial at apex. External
ashlar stack to rear and ashlar ridge stack to rear wing, both with moulded
cornices. All casements with leaded lights. Ground-floor 2-light
chamfered mullioned stone window to left. Gabled ashlar break off-centre to
right, with chamfered plinth and offset to right and parapeted gable with
coping and globe finial at apex; first-floor 3-light chamfered mullioned
stone window and boarded door with chamfered reveals, moulded elliptical
archway and square hoodmould with lozenge-shaped stops, raised to centre
over square date stone. Left-hand gable end has first-floor wooden oriel
window of 1:2:1 lights with shaped brackets beneath, and ground-floor 3-
light chamfered mullioned stone window; king-post truss in gable, with
decorative curved braces. Right-hand gable end with first-floor 3-light
mullioned wooden casement and ground-floor 2-light chamfered mullioned
stone window. Ashlar rear wing with first-floor 3-light window in gable
end. Interior not inspected. This is one of a pair of lodges to Yeaton
Peverey (q.v.), also by Aston Webb.
