The Smelt House is shown on O.S. map as Lower House.
Remains of lead smelting flues. Late C19. Roughly coursed limestone
rubble with red brick dressings. Substantial remains of round-headed
brick flues and retaining wall. Several of the flues are open and
one to front is tunnelled back for some considerable distance below
ground.Surrounding well-preserved earthworks, including rectangular-
shaped pond to north-east, are all associated with former lead smelting
complex (q.v. under Former Lead$melting Works). The Smelt House is
not included in this list.
