Description

STANTON HARCOURT SUTTON LANE
SP40NW (North side)
Sutton
8/335 No.43 (Yew Tree Cottage)
07/08/74 (Formerly listed as Rose
Cottage)

GV II

House. Late C16/early C17, remodelled late C17/early C18 with later alterations.
Rendered over timber frame on limestone rubble plinth; hipped thatch roof; right
end stack of stone finished in brick. 2-unit plan. One storey and attic;
irregular 2-window range. C20 door and flanking 2-light casements; swept dormers
have C19 two-light casements with glazing bars. Outshut to right has
weatherboard over timber frame on limestone rubble plinth. C20 extension.
Extension of 1983 to left of similar materials. Interior not inspected but
likely to be of interest. It has been suggested that the house originally had an
open hall with a timber-framed chimney to left of the 2-storey chamber over back
kitchen or buttery.
