9/261 The White Horse Inn

Public house. Late C17/early C18. Coursed limestone rubble with some
marlstone-ashlar dressings. Stonesfield-slate roofs with brick gable stacks.
3-unit through-passage plan plus service range. 2 storeys plus attic. Regular
window front of main range has small 2-light casements with ashlar flat
arches, and has the entrance between bays 2 and 3 below a large tiled canopy,
the posts of which support simple benches. Steep-pitched roof has 2 small gabled
roof dormers, and has gable parapets with projecting moulded kneelers. A
2-storey service bay, to right, has a 2-light casement with wooden lintel, and
it returns to rear as a single-storey range. Rear of main range has further
casements with flat arches. Interior: stop-chamfered spine beams and fireplace
bressumers; butt-purlin roof.
