House. Built 1910 as Hurtwood Edge by A. T. Bolton. Sandstone blocks with red
brick quoins and dressings and hipped plain tiled roofs, lead roof over entrance
porch. Two storeys with taller tower to rear left where ground drops away, base-
ment to rear. Ridge stacks to centre, right of centre and on end of taller range
to rear left. Casement fenestration with 7 windows across the first floor on a
continuous brick sill band. Two round windows to first floor of projecting right
hand wing. Three roundel windows to ground floor left, brick relieving arch over
basement fenestration below. Five thermal windows to ground floor centre/right,
one with extension below breaking sill band. Two cambered-head casement windows
to ground floor of projecting wing to right. Segmental headed projecting entrance
break to left with rusticated angle piers on first floor flanking arched windows
and balcony on scroll brackets. Round arched entrance below between similar
rusticated angle piers. Left hand return front:- square tower over basement
where ground drops away. Brick bands over plinth and to sill and lintel levels
of windows. Two casements on ground floor and arched sashes on first floor flank
casement doors in arched margin lights with wrought iron balcony on scroll
brackets to front in open pediment frontispiece on first floor. Seven bay
corbelled arcade above with two bays containing casement windows, one either side
of centre. 'Loggia' above under roof in Tuscan style. Rear - six bays across on
tower, centre four glazed, arched on second floor. Casement door to centre of
first floor under glazed round-arched head. One arched window either side.
Glazed door to centre of ground floor in columned, and block rusticated, frontispeice.
Six first floor windows to left, 3-bay balcony to left end. Three rectangular
windows to ground floor, 3 bay arcade to centre and two round-arched leaded
windows to left. Coloured paving stone terrace across front.
