House. 1826 by John Dobson for Mr. Weallans. Ashlar with plinth and Lakeland
slate roof. Square main block with lower service wings to left.
Garden front: 2 storeys, 5 bays with full-height, 3-bay central bow window.
Angle pilasters. On ground floor full-length 15-pane sashes, margined in
outer bays. On 1st floor shortened 9-pane sashes, again margined in outer
bays. Cornice and projecting stone eaves. Hipped roof with 2 corniced ridge
stacks.
Lower 4-bay service wing to left has slightly-recessed right bay with half-
glazed door and overlight, 6-pane sash above and dentilled cornice. Elsewhere
16-pane sashes on ground floor and small 8-pane sashes above. Hipped roof.
Entrance front: 3 bays. Half glazed door in recessed porch with 2 square
Tuscan columns in antis. 12-pane sashes with moulded sills and aprons.
Interior: Cantilevered stair with stick balusters. Sitting room has frieze
with row of palmettes and row of Greek key. Dining room frieze has pairs of
cornucopia alternating with palmettes;dentil cornice above.
