II
Small country house in small landscaped garden. 1892 by Reginald (later Sir Reginald)
Blomfield in a neo-William and Mary style. Red brick on tall chamfered plinth of
dressed stone brought to courses. Rusticated stone quoins and gauged brick dressings.
Flat panelled wooden eaves soffit to plain tiled bell-cast roof. South front: three
hipped dormers and two tall stacks behind ridge. Two storeys and attic; regular
five window front, glazing bar sashes in open boxes with red brick gauged heads,
those on first floor slightly shallower than those below. Central blind panel on
ground floor with gauged head. Shallow, and very narrow, recessed wing to left with
one very narrow window on ground floor. Entrance front: irregular L-plan with slightly
recessed entrance under pebble-dashed arch on projections to left. Shell-hood
on volute-brackets over half-glazed door with side-wings to hood over narrow flanking
windows; all glazing with chamfered panes. Interior: Staircase. Three-flight open-well
stair with turned bulbous balusters and ramped handrail, this part probably reused.
One room with reused C18 fireplace with herm pilasters. The gable and bell-coted
stable wing which used to stand to the east of the house and was connected has been
demolished.
