Former guildhall, latterly almshouses, workhouse and 3 dwellings, now 1
dwelling. c.1510, altered C19 and C20. Timber frame, partially exposed.
Plastered with some whitewashed brick casing. Steeply pitched pantiled roof.
5 bays, narrow entrance bay originally to right with 4-bay first floor hall.
2 storeys, continuously jettied to front. Ground floor: entrance now to left
of centre with C19 and C20 6 and 9-light casements. Brattished girding beam
and bressumer, moulded capitals below curved brackets to main joists. First
floor: exposed studding, C20 casements, 3 to centre and left retaining large
sills that originally supported oriel windows, traces of ornamental carving
survive. Left gable end external stack with offsets, exposed studding. Right
gable end is brick cased with a C19 extruded stack and a small lean-to
outshut. To rear right a short gabled 2 storey C19 brick wing with segmental
headed casements. 1 storey lean-to outshut added to rear centre and left.
Interior: ground floor, close studding of large scantling, crossed stop
chamfered binding beams, 4-centred arched doorway in right hand bay to rear.
First floor: 2 similar doorways in right hand bay indicating original external
stair access from rear. Curved tension braces in walling. Jowled posts with
large hollow moulded arched braces to moulded cambered tie beams. Crown post
roof, octagonal posts with moulded capitals and bases, 2-way curved braces to
collar purlin.
