-- II
House, early and mid C16. 2 storeys. 3-cell cross-entry plan. Timber-framed
and plastered; the framing is fully exposed along the front wall: the parlour
cell to left has exceptionally close heavy studwork; and the slightly later
section to right is of the normal high quality for the area in mid C16. A 4-
centred arched cross-passage doorway (blocked), and a diamond-mullioned
chamber window. Thatched roof with axial chimney, the shaft rebuilt in mid
C20 red brick. 3- and 4-light mid C20 casements. C20 gabled plaintiled porch
with boarded door, at lobby-entrance position. The parlour-block to left has
heavy unchamfered floor joists and prolific tension bracing with blocked
diamond mullioned windows (one has roll-and-cavetto mullions). C17 back-to-
back lintelled open fireplaces. In the hall are heavy chamfered floor joists.
The later roof has windbraced clasped purlins; the central truss over the hall
has a heavy arch braced collarbeam in place of a tiebeam.
