The Old Rectory

House, formerly the rectory. Early C19 with later additions, including a
single-storey range to the left. Brick, stuccoed and ashlar-lined to the
facade and right hand return (garden front); the remainder is colourwashed.
2-span hipped slated roof. 2 storeys. 3-bay facade with clasping pilasters
at the angles and the narrow centre bay set forward. The facade is not quite
symmetrical. Inset sash windows with glazing bars under slightly cambered
arches. Doorway has 6-panel bolection-moulded door and rectangular overlight
with ornamental glazing based on a design of radiating loops; panelled
reveals. Fine Roman Doric porch, the entablature with wreaths in the metopes
and a dentil cornice. 2-bay pilastered garden front with a first floor
moulded band; French windows to ground floor. Rear elevation has centre set
forward, the doorway with an overlight matching the one at the front. Part of
the medieval moat survives.
