Reading Green Farmhouse

II

Former farmhouse. Late C16. Timber framed and plastered with a thatched
roof. 1 1/2 storeys with small attic. 2-cell, lobby entrance type. 2 windows,
C19 4-light casements. 3 gabled dormers. C20 plastered gabled porch with 4-
panel door. Internal stack, the exterior portion of the shaft rebuilt. The
frame is in just 3 bays, some of the studding being exposed internally. Main
ground floor room has long axial bridging beam with barred stop-chamfer and
plain joists. The chamber above has a substantially-framed cross-partition of
re-used timbers, one with evidence for diamond mullions. Roof has clasped
purlins and 2-way wind bracing. Original newel stair.
