GV II
Former Farmhouse. C16, with C18 extension. Timber-framed and rendered; fully
hipped plaintiled roof with eaves overhang. 2 storeys; 3-cell form. An
internal chimney-stack with a plain red brick shaft. 3 2-light 4-paned
casement windows to the upper floor, 4 larger 6-paned casements to the ground
floor. A small enclosed and gabled late C19 porch with corbelled eaves and
semi-circular arched doorway, 6-panelled door, and fanlight with radiating
glazing-bars. 2 single-storey pantiled lean-to's at the rear. To the left of
the internal stack are 3 C16 bays, formerly with a 2-cell end-chimney form.
Substantial, widely-spaced studding; stud-to-stud arched bracing in end walls.
2-bay service end, formerly divided into 2, partition wall with hall mainly
removed, but evidence for 2 doorways with rectangular heads; heavy plain
unchamfered joists. On the upper floor, a blocked 4-light window on the front
wall with diamond mullions in situ, and housings for further diamond-mullioned
windows in the gable end. Open truss with cambered tie-beam and arched braces
springing from the jowls of the main posts. Upper ceilings a later insertion.
Simple clasped purlin roof with collars renewed. The chimney-stack is a C18
rebuild, and a C18 kitchen with much poorer timbering has been added to the
right of the stack.
