Farmhouse, now house. Dated 1769 at lst floor; slightly altered. Brown
brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone plinth and dressings, roof of
stone-coloured tiles. Square 2 x 2 bay plan. Two storeys and attic; tall
almost symmetrical facade in classical style, with rusticated quoins,
dentilled and moulded cornice; doorway offset slightly left of centre with
rusticated pilasters, entablature with simplified triglyphs, and deep
moulded pediment; renewed door with 6 fielded panels; 2 tall sashed windows
on each floor, all with exposed boxes, one large and 2 narrow margin panes
in each leaf, splayed stone heads with pseudo-voussoirs and keystones. In
centre of 1st floor a plaque on brackets displaying a carved cartouche with
a bird on the top, initials "I S" above and date "17 69" below. Gable
chimneys. Each gable has an inserted window at ground floor and 2 attic
windows; rear has a round-headed stairlight with imposts, triple keystone,
and glazing bars marking Y-tracery in the head, some square 2-light windows
with segmental heads and altered glazing (including an upper stairlight);
altered door and window at ground floor of 1st bay. Interior: 4-room plan
with direct entry to front room on left; round-headed doorway from this to
rear hall and staircase; doglegged staircase with open string, scrolled
brackets, slim turned balusters, ramped handrail; doorcases and doors with
fielded panels; similar doors to fitted cupboards. Note: unusually high
quality of external and internal decoration in a house of modest size, and
all apparently contemporary.
