- II
House. C16 and later, with mid-C19 front. 2 storeys and attics throughout,
although the house falls into 2 distinct sections with different roof-levels.
Timber-framed, encased in colour-washed brick; slate roofs; end chimney-stack.
The higher main range is C18, but its sash windows were maainly replaced by
small-paned casement windows with transomes in the early C20. A flat-roofed
enclosed porch contains the entrance door, with 6 recessed panels and a
rectangular fanlight with radiating tracery; shallow triangular pediment
above, supported on long brackets. The lower range on the right has one
internal chimney stack, and another at the east end. One 4-light and one 5-
light small-paned casement window with arched heads to frames and surrounds,
and 2 casement windows to the upper floor with gablet roofs above. One
ground-floor room has a fine exposed timber ceiling, with heavy main beam and
joists with roll-mouldings. This range appears to have extended further
eastwards originally, and has a plain C17 butt-purlin roof, probably a
replacement.
