House. Late C16 with C18 and C20 additions. Timber-framed with
colourwashed render and pantile roof, originally thatched. Two storeys with
attic. Three-cell baffle-entry plan. Entrance front: all fenestration on
this front of C19 or C20 dates bar one window. Doorway at right of centre
on line with original screens passage. Three further ground floor 3-light
casements and to the first floor level a C20 leaded window over a 4-light
C16 window with diamond-section mullions. To the ridge at left of centre
is an axial chimney stack of renewed C19 brick of 3 flues. Left hand gable
end is blank at ground floor level and has 2 single-light casements at far
right and left of the first floor and a jettied gable. Right hand side:
two 2-light ground floor casements. Blank walling to first floor and
jettied gable with date 1581 in C20 script. At right of this is an angled
C18 range, originally detached but now joined to the house by a C20 range
which has a door at left and a 2-light window at right. The C18 range has
a brick plinth, rendered upper body and three C20 2-light ground floor
casements and two 2-light C20 gabled dormers to the attic. Rear:
projecting gabled wing at left which has a lean-to clapboarded outshut to
the ground floor at left and a 2-light casement to the attic. The right
hand flank of this wing has a plank door at centre with a 2-light casement
to left of it and a 2-light C20 gabled dormer window above. To right is
the C20 corridor range. The C16 range at right of all this has a doorway
at right of centre with a plank door leading onto the baffle-entry of 4
wide, overlapped planks with nailheads. To right of this at ground floor
level is a 3-light casement and to left are French windows. Immediately to
left of the door and slightly raised is a 2-light casement with a diamond-
section mullion. To the first floor at right is a C19 casement and to far
left is another single-light casement. Between these is a C16 window of 6
lights with diamond-section mullions.
Interior: close-studded walling to ground and first floor rooms with jowled
wall posts at first floor level, chamfered ceiling beams and joists.
Screen of screens passage now moved to one side with moulded muntins and
continuous moulded cross rail. Winder staircase rising from the baffle-
entry lobby.
